Now call me stupid if you like but i've been looking for new xmas lights for the house. Now when looking i've seen blue led static outdoor lights in strings of 100 for around £8. The question is can these be used as blue light for our tanks? 100 blue leds would be sufficient for virtually any tank i would have thought? I am thinking of getting some and mounting on a panel for the tank can anybody see any issues or problems with this idea? I thought of using electrical conduit and drilling led size holes along it's length and then siliconing the leds in place. They are for outdoor use so must be fairly waterproof. Thanks in advance Gaters.

hi gaters
you have to be careful as you have to get the correct watts and volts, light angle, IP65(waterproof) and the correct MA(work current), stick with mate as next week i will have plenty, all at very good prices

Hi Gaters if you can get outdoor lights then it will work fine, an LED is an LED, I dont think those moon lights stripes have high output leds. If they are outdoor LEDS then they have to be waterproof by law before being sold.

And watts and current is already sorted for you.

I will be looking for some cheap outdoor lights.

If you can send me a pm where to get a set from.

no i woulkdnt risk it you need a high wave length in mcd 10000 and more or it will give out the wrong uv spectrum and will couse RTN on your corals, as there decoration lighting i doubt there that high,

at the moment im building one using 100 blue 14000 and 200 wite 27000 mcd builbs with 68 and 100 hm resistors
