Toady, my toadstool seems to have developed a hole in him:

A Closeup:

The area around it appears to have turned yellow too. It's still expanded to its usual size and look fine apart from the hole. What could have caused it and should I do anything?
Thanks,
Mike

could it be a lace nudibranch, they usually lurk underneath the rock the coral is on or a rock which is nearby. how long have you had the coral, have you added any new sacro's recently?

I've had the coral since January and it's grown from 3" to 18". No new corals or rock have been added to the tank for a couple of months now.

was the coral sulking recently and only now begun to open?
could be a past water chemistry problem
Or has the hole appeared whilst the coral was looking healthy and open each day for the past 10 days?
could be a predator snail etc

It usually withdraws its polyps at night, but I honestly can't remember the last time it completely deflated - it must be months ago.
So I guess I'm looking at a predator?
The clowns host in it, could they be responsible?
Thanks,
Mike

my clowns clean out the nem's mouth, perhaps yours are doing the same with a mouth they've made?

keep an eye on it, if the tissue does not degenerate around the hole it will repair itself as long as a predator is not within its stalk.

Hi Mike it could be a Teddy Bear crab, as they will pick holes in leathers and eat them away HTH Twiggy:D:D

My clowns host in a similiar softy and they do pick at the middle , I would put my money on it being clown damage

Today, it looks like there's a scab over the hole. I hope that's a good sign and it's healing up.
