electric monk very kindly sent me some lovely rotifers through the post so i have now started some cultures of them and some phyto to feed them. got some cheap phyto off fleabay and some liquid miracle grow from yorkshire store, its on special for £1.99 for a litre. used 5 2litre pop bottles washed out, added 2 tablespoons of salt and topped off with ro. added rotis and some phyto to 3 bottles and phyto and 5mls of miracle grow to the other 2. an air pump and a load of airline, 5 way gang valve was added. had a sunglow tube and starter stick it all in a salt bucket and away you go.

obviously won't stay there as i'm still planning on getting married so will be going outside when i've hooked up the leccy in the outhouse. i know the roti's don't need light but they might as well go in there.

as far as i can tell any temp will do as long as its not boiling or freezing. expecting the tube to keep the temp in range, even in winter.

know what you mean about not having it indoors. mrs cl0wns words were, "that's not going to be here permanently, is it?" it wasn't a question either.

i reckon i can stretch to having it indoors for another week if i can time the 8hrs light off in prime time. prolly 4 - 10 pm.

Here is my stuff I use, all you need. I have been changing 1ltr of water with tank water and throwing 1 ltr away per week. The culture vessel is a 2ltr bottle of cider I saw in Sainsbury's, you do need to drink all of this before starting which is a tough job but someone had to do it :icon_razz:

I have a little spare tank in the shed with power supply but it gets below freezing at this time of year, & a heater would just be perma on! Maybe in the summer.

I would cover the tops of the phyto with floss.
If any rote get in you will lose the culture. :icon_sad:

I 2nd this, i have seen a healthy culture taken out in no time through such small contamination, i am in the middle of sorting out a culture centre, but rots will be in a different room and colour coded items will be used with rot's only
