bought a couple of cleaner shrimp off james on sunday had a phone call this morning off the girlfriend to say one of my fungia's was eating one of the cleaners :eek:im gutted to say the least!:(

was it a cleaner or had the shrimp molted ????? and the coral was eating its old skin ??????? or had the cleaner died and been blown into the coral????

yes, as andy says, cleaners often shed soon after being introduced to the tank as iodine levels are usually higher.

didnt see it personaly so wouldnt like to say but it is a fat fungia lol most things end up in its mouth i think half of all food that goes in the tank is eaten by it so wouldnt be supprised if it'd got hold of the unsuspecting shrimp although i just assumed it'd be to big for it to eat

shrimps are usually quiet agile i would have thought that if the fungia did devour it that there might have been something wrong with shrimp if it has shed you might not see it for a day or two till it has recovered from its molt ( if thats what it was doing ) hopefully it was just its skin it got not the shrimp !! as i love to watch these guys especially when theres food about lol :D:D:D

yeh isnt it just the weirdest feeling when they start cleaning around your nails i couldnt imagine a tank without cleaners mine often seem to have eggs too but i havent been lucky enough to ever see any young that would be great

yeah i know what you mean mine have eggs every week, does anyone captive breed them? only every heard of people trying never with any success

lol indeed, i always get friends to put there finger in (those who are willing) They dont know weather to laugh or cry when my old cleaner used to clean there nails!

normally shrimps don,t normally get devoured by corals or anemones as they are very shrewed in deed,most probally be a molted skin on the coral unless it has died & stuck to the coral.derek
