Can anyone ID this snail for me....... James especially?

Its a magaritta snail found off shore in the UK

PS There are magaritta snails found in Alaska as well as the cortez. We Sometimes bring in Cortez Magaraittas (75 DEGREE temp from Baja) But most Magarittas for sale in this country are found down in the Plymouth beach and are no good for a tropical setup. They are the new Illynassa Obsoletta snail Im afraid.

If it was not for the silver top I would have gussed that also.

PS I have some nerites in stock if anyone wants them. They do go wandering around your room every so often (Lunar Cycle) :eek:

Refers to them as being fromt he turbo family of snails.

Ye I have seen anenomes found offshore from the west Coast on ebay being sold for marine tanks. My ebay feedback is 100% but my sales have went right down due to people conning one another.

I did sell illynassa at first until I did a bit of research and found out they only lived for 6 months at 75 degrees. Now I only sell Tongans and Vibex from the Nass family (Reef Safe and Marine snails). Do not buy any other whelk unless you do research or trust the seller.

Yep, this just prooves the pitfalls of thinking you can get a good deal.

Magarittas are part of the Trochoidean gastropods that include turbos so this identity is not 100% correct nor is it 100% wrong.

Magarittas depending on Species are at best sub Tropical so best kept at 75 degrees

We dont sell many of them - Look at www.reefcritters.co.uk we give this warning "These snails will not tolerate temperatures above 78°F for long periods, best kept between 70°F - 75°F"

But the ones we bring in a sub tropical, I bet my bottom dollar these ones are Cold Water species hence no Latin Name.

the reason I said possibly Nerite is because of the pic on page 303 in Ron Shimeks 500+ Inverts book which looks a lot like Mr Teees`pic, maybe the pics of the Nerites on p303 and the Margaritas on p300 have been mixed up ?
