Hi,

Went to my LFS today and they had a Hovercraft Cowfish (Tetrasomus gibbosus), has anyone got one?

If so what are they like to keep?

Been looking on the net and it says they grown to 4-6inch. I love Long Horned Cowfish but they just get too big for the home aquarium. So thinking of getting a Hovercraft.

Any ideas?

Thanks all

hi heres some info on it

Also known as the Humpback Turretfish, Camel Cowfish, Pyramid Cowfish, or Hovercraft Cowfish (Tetrasomus gibbosus), this species is unique, even for a cowfish! It has many names due to its pyramid shape body. It has two tiny spines above each eye, and a series of serrated, backward pointing ridges on its lower flanks.
This mid-sized species reaches 12 inches in the wild, but rarely achieves such a size in captivity. They are easily housed in an aquarium of 55 gallons. These fish reside in sea grass beds of coastal reefs.
They are found in a small range including the Red Sea, Indonesia, Philippines, and the Great Barrier Reef. A few specimens have been found near the Mediterranean as well. Because of its fairly limited range, this species doesn't appear in the aquarium trade as often as the Longhorn Cowfish. Its care is nearly identical to the Longhorn species.

IMO i'd leave it where it is.

Mr Teee beat me to it but i totally agree

Temp: 22-26 c
PH: 8.1 - 8.4
Salinity: 1.020 - 1.025
Max Size: - 12" in the wild but probably only about 4" in an aquarium.
Food: frozen preparations - Brine shrimp, krill, mussels etc - also veggie stuff such as seaweed, spirulina etc.

It is a peacefull fish but has been known to nibble the the odd invert.

WARNING: If it gets stressed it can release a poison (called ostracitoxin) which can kill other fish in your tank. It is advisable not to house them with agressive fish so that they do not feel threatened.

thanks all,

I'm only going to keep him in a tank with a pair of small clowns and a blenny so there will be now way he will get stressed. Its just the size the fish will get to is what i wanted to know as lots of sites say different things. 4inch, 6inch, 10inch and so on.

Was wondering if anyone already has one and what size theirs has reached?
