My tank has been running for 2 weeks now and i have discovered that some of my live rock has Aiptasia on it. I took a pic into marine tech last night and Chris confirmed it for me. I have managed to remove one of them as it was on a small piece of live rock. What should i do to erase the other little critter? i've read that peppermint shrimp eat them but as my tank has only 2 weeks old it's too early to add inverts isn't it??
help/advise wud be fantastic.

Hi,
As you have no live stock in your tank (I assume?), then boil a kettle, remove live rock from tank (not forgetting to remember where the little blighters are), take rock to sink, pour boiling water down hole where the aip is - rtn rock to tank (it will soon go live again, so don't worry) - job done

i do have live rock and sod's law the piece which it is attached to is right at the bottom of my arrangement!! at first i thought it was a free coral and was telling Chris about it, he then explained to me it was Aiptasia....gutted. I have got a free Xenia though so not all bad.

Hi,
I ment no snails, inverts ect. If none, then try the way described, or maybe Joe's Juice, might be your answer - ask Ian at marine Tec if he sells.

Mix some kalk into a thick paste and cover the pest with it using a syringe, - works every time.

Had 4 in mine, tried true pepps - didn't want to know (hopefully will take care of any small ones if they appear). Have now zapped 3 of them with Tropic Marin Elimi aiptasia (sp?) stuff, last one proving APITA - it's on the underside of a piece of rock at the bottom of my pile, keep injecting the wrong hole in the rock, a modified (bent) syringe needle is getting me closer - will get it next time - hopefully.

IMO I cant see the point in buying branded aiptasia killer.
anything with a drastically different PH will kill them.
Kalk paste - Good because it is pretty dense and will smother + you dont generally have to touch the aiptasia to cover it therfore it doesnt have time to retract.
Lemon juice will also do it but you will need a good aim to get it into the anemones mouth.
Rover - try the kalk and just fill the hole with it. I can almost guarantee you will kill it.
I have had 2 for the past 12 months, but at this point in time am not worried. They are doing nothing really, and certainly not spreading. I do keep a careful eye on them though.

Don't have any kalk at the mo, but if my aims not too clever in the next few days may well give it a try. I'm getting closer:D

Hi I have some real beauts in my tank, but not for long as i am getting a Racoon Butterfly to gobble them all up an maybe a few corals as well but i'm not as long as i get rid of the aiptasia. Eric

i managed to remove the little blighter last night with a pair of tweezers. He is now safely in the bin!! I have also noticed some small green bubble like growths - what are these??

Without seeing some pictures of the algae it probably souns like valonia (bubble algae).
Carefull with removing aiptasia with tweezers as inevitably you will tear the base of the anemone and leave some behind. These will quickly grow into adult specimins and you will be back to square one.
That anemone was a majano m8, not aiptasia, you got it wrong, otherwise I would have told you to use kalk to kill them off. No worries, just be careful as Mr Teee and as I said in shop, if you pull them of you can still end up with the animal growing from the smallest part left behind.
Kindest regards Chris.
