I saw one of these yesterday at the deep and fell in love with them. I'd love one in the 6 footer I will soon buy. I would of course wait until I was happy with all the parameters and their stability.

Judging from the quick bit of research I've just done they sound as if they can be tricky. Just wondered if anyone on here had one or knew anything more about them?

Ive never had one but from what i can gather from others who have they are very much like the powder blue, gold rim,ect..... Very problematic with whitespot and can be aggresive:eek: Personally even though they are gorgeous i wouldnt touch one firstly because of the price and secondly i wouldnt risk the potential wipe out:rolleyes::D

I had one in my previous marinekeeping days but it did cause a wipeout after a couple of months with whitespot but I never noticed any agression from it.
However I will say that was in the dim and distant past (about 18yrs ago)when I knew nothing about water quality or tank compatability.
I also am thinking about adding one to my six footer once I think it is ready, but it will spend a good three months in a 45gal fit filtration tank before I risk introducing to the main display. It is my favoutite fish after the blue face.

they can be a bit finicky & are easily stessed, are very prone to whitespot.mine did ok on its own without any other tangs in the tank but as soon as i added some yellow tangs it came out in whitspot straight away, this was in a 4ft tank but when transfered to a 7ft tank there was less aggression.derek

Just curious... how long had it been in your system before the whitespot outbreak? Just asking as still dubious about this whitespot "has to brought in" verses "its there all the time" debate.

I was intending it to be a centrepeice fish. Nothing else of that sort of size in with it. Maybe a copperband or flame angel but I'd be sure to put them in first.

Iam no expert but if you quarantine your fish(plus ANY thing you add to the tank) you will never get whitespot!

my achillies broke out in whitespot the next day,the are a lovely fish &in an 8ft tank should be great.they are like most tangs if they have plenty of space & are well fed they are not as aggessive towards others.derek

Yeah, I would also like to know understand this, or is it one of the 'Great unanswered questions'
My tank has had no new additions in the last 10 ish weeks, I have never had whitespot, on the theory that they can not survive after XX length of time, does this mean that i cannot get whitespot if i don't add any more stock, not that is likely?
I would willingly pay more for a fish that has been properly quarantined as i have no room for a decent quarantine set up.

very hard to guarrentee, some get whitespot just from moving from the local shop to your tank with the stress.providing the fish your buying has been in the shop for a couple of weeks & is feeding well then there should be no problem.try & get a nice fat fish,a one that does not have a drawn in belly like most of the tangs you see,get one with good bright colours & avoid the ones with very pale markings.derek

The debate on whitespot has ran for years now,all i know is every time ive added a surgeon tang as apose to a naso tang they have broke out in whitespot.
Now they have never died from whitespot but the secondary infections caused by the whitespot is what i beleive wiped my tanks out!!!(oodinium, velvet, marine ich ect ect)

you can get white spot anytime ,anywhere, sounds like a song coming on but really a few of the tangs family can get the spots at any time stress, water problems ,agressive tank mates so just take care alan:eek::eek::eek:

Hi fish face,
What are you basing this information on? I am genuinely interested as I have spent a lot of time researching this topic for my own peace of mind If you had a outbreak Cryptocaryon irritans (marine whitespot) most people lose 80% of there stock . There of lots of other diseases that cause white spots.
I know I shouldn't link to other forums but this article is a must read :-
